A precautionary boil-water advisory took effect Tuesday, Oct. 20, for residents and businesses in parts of Ogdensburg, including the 500 and 600 blocks of Morris Street and the 600 block of Jay Street.
People in the affected blocks should boil tap water for at least one full minute and let it cool before using it. Commercially bottled water certified by the New York State Department of Health may also be used.
The guidance applies to drinking water, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food or baby formula. The advisory is expected to remain in effect for at least two to three days.
After water service is restored, bacteriological samples will be collected. The water must pass testing on two consecutive days before the advisory can be lifted. The city is expected to issue a rescind notice or other alert when the water is cleared for normal use.
For questions or to check whether a specific address is included, call the City of Ogdensburg Filtration Department at (315) 393-0490 or the Department of Public Works at (315) 393-2300.
