Residents are seeking safety improvements on County Route 25 in the town of Canton after a Sept. 13 crash involving a pickup truck and an Amish buggy killed two people and injured several others.
Residents raised concerns at a St. Lawrence County board meeting about the road’s shoulders, hills, curves and visibility. They also asked whether the speed limit could be lowered, including near a nearby school.
Since the meeting, more gravel has been added along parts of the road, and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has placed two speed radar signs near the crash site. Sheriff Rick Engle said officials would collect speed data and examine the area further.
