Fort Drum exercise tests response to simulated mass-casualty incident
Fort Drum and local emergency responders took part in an exercise involving a simulated fuel tank explosion and mass-casualty response.
Fort Drum and local emergency responders participated in an Integrated Protection Exercise involving a simulated fuel tank explosion and mass-casualty incident on Aug. 18 at the installation. Responders treated role players, moved them to a triage area and loaded them into ambulances as officials coordinated operations from an incident command post.
Participating agencies included Carthage Area Rescue Squad, Black River Emergency Medical Service, Guilfoyle Ambulance Service, South Jefferson Rescue Squad and Thousand Islands EMS. The exercise also included support operations at the Emergency Family Assistance Center inside Clark Hall, with services including legal and financial assistance, behavioral health, temporary housing and personnel locator help.
