Assemblyman Scott Gray, R-Watertown, said a statewide poll by the Empire Center for Public Policy found that 63% of respondents oppose electrifying home heating, while 30% support it. Among voters with no party affiliation, opposition was 66% to 25%.

Gray also said the poll showed utility costs were New Yorkers’ leading concern. He called for changes including accounting for costs associated with the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, requiring beneficiaries to pay related costs and preserving consumer choice in home heating.
