Jefferson Community College has named Baian A. Abdyrasulova its featured Honors Program student for October 2026. Abdyrasulova, of Kyzyl-Tuu, Kyrgyzstan, is majoring in computer science and hopes to become a software engineer.
Her Honors project will focus on enhancing programming labs in problem-solving, algorithms, object-oriented programming and software design. She said she chose the Honors Program to pursue learning beyond the classroom and take more responsibility for her education.
Abdyrasulova plans to transfer to Le Moyne College for a bachelor's degree in computer science. JCC's Honors Program allows participating students to enhance three courses through Honors Options, with each project developed with a faculty member. Students also take a seminar open to program participants.
The college lists benefits including priority advising and registration, an honors citation on students' transcripts, scholarship eligibility, and recognition at an honors reception and commencement. JCC is located on a 90-acre campus along the Black River in Watertown, about 10 minutes from Fort Drum.
JCC regularly highlights a featured Honors Program student each month. Students interested in the program can contact Honors@sunyjcc.edu or visit Jefferson Community College's website for more information.
