Massena village board accepts DPW mechanic resignation, begins hiring search

The Village of Massena is advertising to fill motor equipment mechanic positions in its Department of Public Works after the board accepted a mechanic's resignation at its Aug. 11 meeting, leaving the department with one mechanic.

The Village of Massena is recruiting motor equipment mechanics for its Department of Public Works after trustees accepted a mechanic's resignation at their Aug. 11 meeting.

The departure leaves the DPW with a single mechanic, DPW Superintendent Steve Dailey confirmed during the meeting. Mayor Greg Paquin thanked the departing employee for his service to the village.

Village officials said the shortage could require some repair work to be sent to outside vendors, which would add costs. In past years, outsourcing was generally limited to specialized jobs and major overhauls of older equipment. Officials said they hope to fill the positions soon to limit added spending.

In other business, the board approved spending from the Rescue Squad Capital Reserve Fund for portable radios and security system upgrades for the Massena Rescue Squad.

The Village Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet next at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in room 30 of Massena Town Hall.
