Steuben County confirms measles case; health officials trace contacts

Steuben County health officials confirmed a measles case after being notified on Aug. 18. The resident, who was unvaccinated, is isolating at home until no longer contagious, officials said.

The county health department is conducting contact tracing and has identified potential public exposure sites. The New York State Health Department says 16 measles cases have been confirmed outside New York City so far this year. Health officials said the risk to the general public is low, particularly for vaccinated people, but measles remains highly contagious.
